Prior to coming to Vallejo Ms. Hammon taught science, was a principal in other districts, and also worked on her son's farm!  Ms. Hammon graduated from CSU Chico with a degree in Chemistry and from CSU Hayward with a Master's in Educational Leadership.  Principal Hammon and all of the Loma Vista staff work together to help all students achieve their greatest potential.  It's always a great day to be an Owl!

Thank you for choosing Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy

On behalf of all of us, I say THANK YOU! Thank you for trusting us with your most precious children.  We promise to do our very best everyday to reaffirm you decision to choose LVESA as the right educational setting for your child.  Loma Vista is a student-centered school on its way to becoming a Kindergarten through Eighth grade Science Academy where students are given academic and social support in preparation for matriculation to high school.

Why choose LVESA for your child?  LVESA is the only school in the VCUSD with a working farm where students experience environmental science first-hand each week.  LVESA is a Full-Service Community School with Academic Service Provider Reginald Brown who connects families with the Family Resource Center (part of the Fighting Back partnership).

Please think about how you can participate in our educational program.  Parents are always welcome on campus to observe and assist.  (Please check in at the office when you arrive.)

Students are in charge of recycling food waste from the cafeteria and feeding it to animals on the farm.  Students will continue to work on the farm, planting seedlings and tending vegetables which will grow into greens served in our school lunchroom.  All students during the regular school day will participate in the school garden, and so will the Encore students in the after-school program.

Loma Vista is a Full Service Community School (FSCS), and the goal is to ensure students have clear pathways from Preschool to College and Career.  The FSCS program provides comprehensive academic, social, mental, and physical education services to meet student, family, and community needs.  We will work to improve student academic achievement and well being through the offering of comprehensive high-quality services.  The following are the program's main objectives:

  • Improve student achievement (eliminate the achievement gap)
  • Improve student attendance
  • Reduce student referrals, suspensions, and expulsions
  • Increase student well-being in a range of health indices
  • Improve school campus safety
  • Increase parent involvement in their children's education
  • To improve the graduation rate

So, let’s take this educational adventure together.

Britt Hammon, LVESA Principal                  It’s always a great day to be an Owl!
